Burgundy at the Folger

Thursday, April 24, 2008   (0 Comments)
Burgundy's troupe of 15 actors won the Ensemble Award for their performance of "Much Ado About Nothing" at this prestigious event on March 6.

In the words of the judges:

“Everyone (15 actors) understood the play, all the characters, their own fully rounded character, and the language. The ensemble completely committed, dedicated to the comedic ride taken, and made the story fun to watch, giving great pleasure.” In a later feedback session, the commentators shared that: “All the actors were present, and brought excellent energy to the production, understanding the need of comedy to move with one scene flowing into the next. Everyone got the wild and crazy blocking. All were committed to the staging and characters. Diction was good. Everyone was on the same level (one definition of an ensemble) and obviously had fun. There were smart choices…smart staging and pacing… using the Twister game for the party scene…everyone walked on stage as if they belonged there.”

Several were singled out.

Daniel P. was awarded the Peggy O’Brian (founder of the Festival) Fool Award for comedic acting: “He was fully committed to the character Dogberry, had great fun with the language and brought much laughter. Peggy established the award to recognize the value of laughter.”

Austin C.was recognized with one of two awards given for Distinction in Acting. He “…took on a role that many adult actors have difficulty with and remained true to the character, giving a well-rounded performance.”

Noah P. was given the Focused Father Award: “Leonato, the father, was always present on stage, always in character.”

Congratulations to all and to drama teacher Deborah Ives for an outstanding performance!
